Rick Briggenhorst is a multi-disciplinary artist working in Springfield, Missouri. His research is focused in processing grief in a technologically tethered world. Using sculpture and physical computing to create participatory audio and visual installations, he creates interactive works for those who are mending their spirits. He is working against the idea that death is the end of life, that our loved ones exist in post-physical states of being, in our bits of data, and in placeless places. He received his M.F.A. in Visual Studies in 2023 from Missouri State University where he is now an Instructor of New Media. He has had numerous solo shows such as a part from you (Springfield Art Museum, 2023) and US + ACTION (Rosette Studios, 2016). In 2024 he was accepted as a teaching faculty for the 2024 Missouri Fine Arts Academy where he co-taught the course Creating For A Better World: Art As Equity, which focuses on the role of artists to enact change in their communities and beyond. He is also the founder of the program INPUT + OUTPUT, an educational program with an emphasis on facilitating critique for the betterment of the local arts community.
